Magnetic: Mos Def News

Thanks to the folks over at the ill new Hip-Hop Spot Forums, there’s going to be a lot more video love coming over the Magnetic pipes from now on.

First installment is a home video of Mos performing Boogie Man at the Black August benefit show at BB Kings in August. You’ll have to deal with some people talking around the guy taking this video, but it’s worth it for this intimate look at Mos rockin’ the mic on stage.

Black August is an annual hip-hop benefit concert designed to raise awareness of civil rights and other social issues important to the Hip-Hop Community.

Mos Def briefly took the stage at the Chris Aire Fashion Show at Olympus Fashion Week in New York last month, and he used his time to freestyle a few rhymes that called to mind his Katrina Klap single.

Mos Def wasn’t the only hip-hop star at the show. Wyclef, Nelly, DJ Clue, Foxy Brown, and Fabolous were also on hand.

From Press The Issue comes the Katrina Klap video! The video features footage of post-Katrina New Orleans as well as Mos Def live in the studio, and adds powerful visual imagery to his already scathing lyrics.

The fact that Mos Def did a commercial for GMC to promote their Denali line of SUV is old news, but I just recently sought out and viewed the actual spot. For those like me who heard the news, but never saw the ad:
