This is not Mos Def (which is so painfully obvious when you listen, if you can bear it), but I couldn’t help but link to the FEMA for Kids Rap site. This is what happens when your government tries to be hip (hop).

I’m sure Mos and others would have something to say about the closing lines of the song:

When disaster strikes, we are at our best
But we’re ready all the time, ‘cause disasters don’t rest.

It seems that quite a few people are searching for the lyrics to Mos Def’s Hurricane Katrina anthem, "Katrina Klap." I’m here to save the day.

I’ve created an iTunes iMix called "All Mos Def." It contains all the songs I can find that feature Mos Def as a special guest. It’s got 32 tracks right now. Of course, The Mighty Mos Def has guested on many more tracks than this, but I’m limited to the tracks that the iTunes Music Store carries.

If anyone spots any Mos Def songs on iTunes not on this iMix, let me know

Mos Def’s latest album, The New Danger, is available on the new music download service MusicGiants. Mos Def in High-Def! (They should so get Mos to pitch for them.)

The service, launched today, will offer audio in a WMA lossless format at bitrates as high as 1100kpbs! Along with a $50 annual fee, users will also need a computer running Windows XP to access the service. Songs start at $1.29.

An edited clean version of The New Danger as well as the original "explicit" version are currently available.

Black Star, Mos Def’s collaboration with Talbi Kweli, is not yet available on MusicGiants. No word on whether this or any other prior Mos Def work will be made available in the future.
